The Techplomacy Foundation (TF) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, and independent organization founded by former UN officials to close the divide between the fast‑evolving tech industry and the often slower‑moving world of government regulation. As technology reshapes societies faster than governments can respond, TF advances the practice of Techplomacy as a practical approach to bridging this gap. We foster responsible tech and AI development through effective governance, international collaboration, and ethical leadership.

What is Techplomacy?

The Techplomacy Foundation defines Techplomacy as:

“The practice of diplomacy, cooperation, and negotiation among states, the tech industry, and civil society to shape the development and governance of emerging technologies. Its purpose is to ensure that tech innovation advances in ways that protect human rights, strengthen global security, promote equity, and uphold democratic values, while fostering international collaboration to address shared challenges in the digital era.”

Our current focus is AI governance, safety, and regulation, where governance gaps are most urgent.

Preventing fragmentation in global AI governance

AI is advancing faster than governments can regulate it. While a small group of countries shapes AI rules, deployment is global. This gap creates real risks to security, trust, and effective governance.

We operate at the intersection of tech/AI, diplomacy, governance, and national security to ensure AI is governed in ways that are coordinated, enforceable, and globally relevant.

The Techplomacy Foundation works to close this gap.
